A joint research workshop was held on CUHK campus in collaboration with the CAS Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences from 15 to 17 October with the aim of establishing collaboration and facilitating exchange. The workshop was co-organized by the Departments of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management together with Office of Academic Links and Big Data Decision Analytics Research Center.
Participants of the Workshop included 12 scholars from the National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (NCMIS) and Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS), including two Academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Prof. Cui Junzhi and Prof. Chen Hanfu. CUHK representatives came from the Departments of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, and Chemical Pathology including Prof. Huang Jie, Chairman of Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering and Prof. Helen Meng, Chairman of Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and Director of Big Data Decision Analytics Research Center. Discussions were held on topics in data science, control, financial and economic prediction, and biomedicine.
The delegates were warmly received by CUHK senior members including Professor Benjamin Wah, Acting Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fanny Cheung. Prof. Wah said at the opening ceremony, 'the workshop served as a platform for experts and scholars from CAS and CUHK to share their views and to exchange ideas on mathematics and systems science.'
