I·CARE and InnoPreneur

As one of the members of the CUHK Entrepreneurs Alliance *, this Centre puts efforts into organising activities on social innovation in order to further the establishment of a quality platform for the exchange of entrepreneurial information among CUHK members.  In this context, this Centre has recently benefitted from InnoPort, which is operated by the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services, to offer startup support services to the awarded teams of the I·CARE’s Social Enterprise Startup Scheme and S.I. Leadership Award Scheme.

Adjacent to the University MTR Station, InnoPort is equipped with a wide range of facilities which include co-working space, seminar rooms, conference rooms and exhibition area so as to provide all-round support for the CUHK activities on innovation and entrepreneurship.  The support consists of, inter alia, allowing the startup teams nominated by this Centre to register as users of InnoPort and receive professional consultation services from the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services e.g. protection and licensing of intellectual property, contracts and legal advices, etc.

The Social Enterprise Startup Scheme was launched by this Centre in 2015-16 to nurture CUHK students and young alumni to become impactful entrepreneurs.  This scheme encourages participants to make good use of their expertise to establish or expand their social enterprises.  Participants will be paired up with mentors, who are people with great achievement in specific industries, to obtain from them valuable advice and practical skills of running an enterprise, as well as to be guided by them to widen personal network.  Regarding the S.I. Leadership Award Scheme, it was launched by the Yunus Social Business Centre at CUHK, which is an affiliate of this Centre.  Through training, mentorship and competition, this scheme encouraged participants to form teams to implement their social business initiatives which help alleviate poverty.  So far, the scheme has funded eight teams, but it is now on the shelf.

For enquiries on the Social Enterprise Startup Scheme, please contact Mr. Ng of this Centre at 3943 9249 (Tel) or enoch.ng@cuhk.edu.hk (Email).  If you would like to obtain more information about the InnoPort, please click here to visit its webpage.
