Agreement Signing with the Palace Museum and Public Lecture by Dr. Shan Jixiang, Director of the Palace Museum, Adjunct Professor in the School of Architecture and Senior Research Fellow (Honorary) in the Art Museum of CUHK

 

Dr. Shan Jixiang, Director of the Palace Museum (PM) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 23 September 2014 to strengthen ties with the University. He delivered a public lecture on City Development and Cultural Heritage Preservation during the visit, received the appointment certificate of CUHK and signed a Letter of Intent on behalf of PM.

 

Dr. Shan shared with the audience his insight in heritage issues with an inter-disciplinary approach in his lecture. He talked about the principles and approaches of managing cultural heritage, covering the roles of economic, social and political development in affecting the work of heritage preservation in contemporary societies. 

 

Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK took the opportunity to sign a Letter of Intent with Dr. Shan regarding collaborative efforts between CUHK and PM. An appointment certificate presentation ceremony was held for Dr. Shan who has accepted CUHK's invitation to serve as Adjunct Professor of School of Architecture and Senior Fellow (Honorary) of Art Museum starting from January 2014.

 

Dr. Shan next visited the Art Museum and the School of Architecture where he met with relevant academic members for exchange of ideas. The visit strengthened the bilateral ties and paved the way for collaboration and academic exchange between the University and PM in study of ancient architecture, heritage collection and archives as well as exhibition and training of museum management.

AVP Prof. Fung Tung attends the Seminar under the Green University Consortium

 

Prof. Fung Tung, Associate Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Associate Director of the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES) attended a Seminar on Humanities, Economics and Management between Hong Kong and Taiwan, which was held in Taiwan Central University (NCU) on 26 September 2014.

 

At the Seminar, Prof. Fung gave a talk on campus planning, energy development and sustainability policy of CUHK and shared with the participants the University's achievement and challenges on implementation of relevant plans.

 

CUHK, Nanjing University and NCU established the Cross-strait Green University Consortium in 2011 to consolidate resources to drive joint initiatives that incorporate green concepts into research and education. Under this framework, the 3 universities have been collaborating to organize student activities, host seminars, form research teams and exchange teaching experience. The activity served as a platform for expertise exchange and experience sharing to foster synergetic collaboration under the Consortium.
