A delegation of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led by Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, attended the Mainland-HK Science and Technology Cooperation Committee Events from 9 to 12 September 2014 in Qingdao. The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, HKSAR with coordination of Innovation and Technology Commission. Senior members of Hong Kong tertiary institutions also participated in the trip.
Members of the CUHK delegation included Prof. Kung Hsiang-fu, Chair Professor of Virology, Stanley Ho Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases and Director of State Key Laboratory Oncology in South China (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); Prof. Leung Ping-chung, Director of the Centre for Clinical Trials on Chinese Medicine and Director of State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (Partner Laboratory in CUHK) ; Prof. Zhang Jianghua of School of Life Sciences and Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); Prof. Anthony Chan, Chairman and Professor of Clinical Oncology, and Associate Director of State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); Prof. Yu Jun of the Department of Medicine & Therapeutics and Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); and Dr. Ralph Ip, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services.
The delegates took part in the ninth meeting of the Mainland-Hong Kong Science and Technology Co-operation Committee and events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Mainland-Hong Kong science and technology co-operation, including the Seminar for State Key Laboratories and the Forum on Modern Services Industry. Visits were paid to the research facilities such as Industrial Technology Research Institute and High-Tech Industrial Development Zone to understand the research development in Qingdao. During the meeting and visits, the CUHK delegates received updates on the recent national policies in science and technology as well as the developments of State Key Laboratories in Hong Kong. They also had direct exchanges and discussions with representatives of Hong Kong Government, Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as universities and research institutes in Hong Kong.
