CUHK Delegation Visits Beijing
A delegation of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, comprised of Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, took part in an outgoing visit paid by heads of Hong Kong universities from 28 September to 1 October 2013 to meet with leaders in higher education, research and government in Beijing.
The delegates visited the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Mr. Li Yuanchao, Vice Chairman of China, together with senior administrators, academicians and scholars held meetings with Hong Kong delegates to exchange ideas and enhance connection. The delegation also participated in the National Day celebration activities.
During the visit in Ministry of Education, Prof. Sung, on behalf of the Hong Kong delegation, led the discussion on the recent development of collaboration in higher education sector between Mainland China and Hong Kong. Universities in Hong Kong generally are keen to continue to play an active role in participating in major national projects and pursue academic excellence and research prominence in collaboration with Mainland partners.
In the past years, CUHK has made a lot of endeavor in enhancing its ties to institutions of higher education and research organizations in Mainland China. Faculty members from across the University collaborate with Mainland counterparts in a broad range of disciplines and areas and the student interflow and exchange activities have becoming vigorous. Every year, CUHK is sending over 2000 students to attend short-term or long-term programs in the mainland. The visit not only promoted exchanges and strengthened co-operation, but also provided valuable information for CUHK's senior members to gain a deeper understanding of the updated academic and research policies in Mainland China.

CUHK Delegation Visits the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education
A visit from Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Jinan University paid to the Ministry of Education (MOE) was organized on 27 September 2013 to report on the new development of the MOE Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine jointly established by CUHK and Jinan University.
Members of CUHK delegation included Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School Biomedical Sciences, and Prof. Wan Chao, Assistant Director of the MOE Key Lab Biomedical Sciences. Prof. Liu Jiesheng, Vice-President of Jinan University together with participating professors in the joint laboratory joined the visit. The delegates met with senior members of the Department of Science and Technology of MOE comprising Director General Wang Yanjue and Deputy Division Chief Zou Hui. Discussion was held at the meeting on the preparation for the assessment of the joint laboratory and the mode of further development in enhancing research excellence in regenerative medicine exploiting the strengths in the two universities.
In 2007, CUHK and Jinan University collaborated in establishing the CUHK-Jinan University Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine. The visit strengthened the linkage between MOE and the two universities towards long and sustainable collaboration with development plans.
