Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Programme cum Lecture Series 2016
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Programme from March 8 - 11 2016. Three CASS Scholars visited CUHK this year, including Prof. Pan Jiahua, Institute of Urban and Environmental Studies; Prof. Wang Junxi, Institute of Sociology; and Prof. Hu Jianhua, Institute of Linguistics.
The University extended a warm welcome to the delegation. The scholars met with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Research Committee; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Faculty Dean of Arts; and Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, Faculty Dean of Social Science. Visits were paid to various units of the University including the Departments of Linguistics and Modern Languages, Psychology and Sociology, the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability, and the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies, where the scholars familiarized themselves with the latest development of the University, interacted with faculty members and discussed further collaboration opportunities in a range of respective fields.
The three scholars delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series 2016 during their stay in CUHK, sharing their expertise with members of CUHK and of the public. The lectures attracted an audience of more than 100 people.

The CASS Scholars Visit Programme was first organized in 2008. Each year, three to four CASS scholars are invited to visit CUHK and deliver talks for the Lecture Series. This programme aims to strengthen academic exchange and enhance long-term collaboration between CUHK and CASS. Programme details can be found here.

Invitation to Lecture Series by Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians
We are proud to present to you the Lecture Series by Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians which will be held on April 20, 2016 (Wednesday). AS Academician, Myozyme inventor Prof. Chan Yuan Tsong will deliver a public lecture (in English) and share his expertise with us. All are welcome to join the event. Details are as follows:

Topic: Charting a Course for a Successful Research in Translational Medicine

Prof. Chen is a world famous and distinguished physician and scientist who is recognized for his work on human genetic disorders. He was awarded Academician of Academia Sinica in 2002, and is dedicated to innovative medical research and has unique analysis on rare disease. In 2006, he invented the drug to cure Pompe disease, once a rare disease with high mortality rate among new born babies, saving thousands of lives worldwide annually. This invention does not only change the destiny of Pompe patients, but has also modified human medical history. The invention process of this drug has become a novel "The Cure" and a Hollywood adapted movie "Extraordinary Measures".
