Associate Professor Angus Burnett is a new staff member in the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. He graduated with his PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Western Australia in 1997.
He spent four years working in an Institute of Sport setting providing Biomechanics support services for elite athletes and coaches in Perth, Western Australia. During that time he also coached high level junior track and field athletes. He has since spent the last 10 years teaching and researching in Biomechanics in both Exercise and Sports Science and Physiotherapy Departments in Western Australia. His research areas include; Sports Biomechanics, Low Back Pain in Sports and Exercise and Physical Activity, as well as the Bio-psycho-social Aspects of Low Back Pain in a cross-cultural context. The latter research has been recently undertaken with Fudan University. He has also recently acted as an expert witness in Forensic Biomechanics cases and also submitted a report to the International Cricket Council on an important issue to world cricket. Finally, he was recently appointed as an Associate Editor of the journal of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports called Sports Biomechanics.
