CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019: Social Innovation Seminar

The CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019 organised by CUHK Alumni Torch Fund was successfully held on the 10th-11th of this month at Lee Shau Kee Building.  Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po (Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government), Prof. Rocky S. Tuan (Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK) and Mr. Stephen Liang (Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council) officiated the Opening Ceremony in the morning of the 1st day.  Other activities were kaleidoscopic among which the "Social Innovation Seminar" had been proposed in response to changing times.

As one of the co-organisers of the CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019, this Centre lined up a session under the "Social Innovation Seminar" titled "The Power of Social Innovation of CUHK - How CUHK Social Entrepreneurs Change the Society".  The following social entrepreneurship teams' representatives were invited to join the panel discussion hosted by Mr. Howard Ling (Chief Consultant of Social Enterprise Business Centre):

-Lau Kong-shing, Co-founder of Heycoins
-Yip Hiu-wai, Founder of Festyle, a project supported by the "Social Enterprise Startup Scheme"
of this Centre
-Jan Chan, Founding member of WeCareBill, a project now under incubation of the "Social
Enterprise Startup Scheme" of this Centre
-Chuk Ka-lok, Founder of Stay Within Bookspace, a project now under incubation of the "S.I.
Leadership Award Scheme" of the Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK, a subsidiary of this
Centre

Apart from introducing their respective social enterprises and sharing with audiences the difficulties, challenges and opportunities they had encountered during their business startup journey, the four young social entrepreneurs talked about how they had been devoting themselves to addressing different social issues e.g. employment of the middle-aged women, and inadequacy of medical support.
