| 【College Updates】Memorial Service of Professor Yu Ying-shih | |
Renowned historian Prof. Yu Ying-shih, the College’s first graduate and fifth President, passed away in his home in the United States on the morning of 1 August 2021 at the age of 91. To commemorate Professor Yu's contribution to the development of the College and to commend his historical research achievements, the Preparatory Committee for Professor Yu Ying-shih's Memorial Service held the Memorial Service of Professor Yu Ying-shih on 30 October 2021 at Cheng Yu Tung Building.

| 【College Updates】The 70th New Asia College Graduation Ceremony | |
The College’s 70th Graduation Ceremony was held on 4 November 2021 at the University Mall. Professor Chu Ka-hou, Emeritus Professor and Former Director of the School of Life Sciences of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Honorary Fellow and Former Associate Head of New Asia College, was invited to officiate at the Ceremony. About 800 graduates were awarded graduation certificates this year. An on-site Ceremony resumed, and livestreaming was also available for graduates and their parents on that day. More than 50 College trustees, guests and staff attended the Ceremony. |

The College, together with the College Student Union (NASU), have published a booklet entitled “Cheng Ming” (College Motto). The booklet is a photo collection along with schedule book and notebook pages which illustrate the ideals of our founders, College development and the New Asia spirit. |

New Asia Lectures on Confucianism 2021 were successfully held in October, with Professor Ng On-cho, Professor of History, Asian Studies and Philosophy, Department of Asian Studies, The Pennsylvania State University, as the keynote speaker to deliver two public lectures. |

Jointly organized by New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies, New Asia College and New Asia College Alumni Association, and co-organized by New Asia Middle School, a lecture of “New Asia Chinese Cultural Talks” was held on 25 September 2021 at the Library of New Asia Middle School with our College Head Prof. Chan Sun-on as the speaker. Prof. Chan shared on the topic “The Silent Teachers”, and the talk was moderated by Prof. Lau Chor-wah, Director of New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies. |

| 【Student Development】Round-up of 72nd Anniversary Activities of New Asia College | |
To celebrate the 72nd anniversary of New Asia, the College organized a series of celebratory activities earlier. An Opening Ceremony was held on 31 August during the orientation camp for freshmen. College Head Prof. Chan Sun-On and Dean of Students Prof. Cheung Kam-siu gave their speeches at the online ceremony. Unlike the previous years, the Opening Ceremony this year was held during the orientation camp aiming to let freshmen know about the College and the anniversary events. As the Thousand-people Banquet was suspended due to COVID-19, the teacher-honouring activity was therefore moved to the first Biweekly Assembly held on 15 September. |

| 【Student Development】Mentorship Programme Inauguration Ceremony 2021/22 | |
The Mentorship Programme of the College has come to its 21st year. With the great support from New Asia College Alumni Association (NACAA) and other alumni, 270 mentors and mentees participated in the programme this year, in which some mentors were new participants. The graduation years of mentors range between 1974 and 2016. Enthusiasm and support from trustees, teachers and alumni are always appreciated. The Inauguration Ceremony of the programme was held on 23 October 2021 afternoon at Yun Chi Hsien. As a pandemic control measure, the number of participants was limited and two Ceremony sessions were arranged at 3pm and 4pm respectively. The mentors and mentees communicated with each other warmly as face-to-face gatherings were rare. A briefing session for mentors explaining programme details was also held half an hour before the ceremony. |

| 【Staff Engagement】Professor Yu Jun and her team received State Natural Science Award second-class award | |
The research team led by NA-affiliated Professor Yu Jun from the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics was honoured with the State Natural Science Award (SNSA) second-class award for the project entitled “Integrative Research on Natural History, Mechanism, Potential Diagnostic and Therapeutic Targets for Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and its related Hepatocellular Carcinoma”. Members of the team also included Professor Wong Wai-sun Vincent, Professor Chan Lik-yuen Henry, another NA-affiliated Professor Zhang Xiang, and Professor Sung Jao-yiu Joseph. | 【Staff Engagement】Professor He Xuhua awarded 2022 AMS Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory | |
NA-affiliated Professor He Xuhua, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Mathematics of the Department of Mathematics and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has recently received the 2022 AMS Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory from the American Mathematical Society. Professor He is the first Hong Kong scholar to receive this award, in recognition of his contribution to the advance of “Lie theory”. Our heartfelt congratulations!

Since the assumption of office as College Head last January, Professor Chan Sun-on has always hoped to visit overseas alumni but was hindered by the pandemic. As a substitution, some videos were prepared for Professor Chan to extend his greetings to overseas alumni associations and invite them to online meetings through ZOOM. |

New Asia College has a long story, and there are now more than 28,000 New Asia alumni all over the world. After the foundation of New Asia College Alumni Association in 1954, some devoted alumni have established alumni associations overseas in order to promote New Asia Spirit, strengthen the alumni network and facilitate the development of the College and its students. |
