CUHK Alumni Homecoming Day – College Activities (Upcoming)

The 2018 CUHK Alumni Homecoming Day will be held on 24 November 2018 (Saturday). On top of other activities, a dinner Banquet will be hosted by the Head of New Asia College. Thanks to the enthusiastic support from our alumni, the registration is full. New Asia College Cultural Talks (Upcoming)
|
Originated in 1950, the New Asia College Cultural Talks, with many speakers being College teaching staff members including prestigious scholars from the Mainland like Mr. Ch'ien Mu, Mr. Tang Chun-i and Mr. Tchang Pi-kai, aimed to encourage the public to learn about Chinese culture and global academic knowledge, and to consider the future of humanity. Jointly organised by the New Asia College and the New Asia College Alumni Association (NACAA) and co-organised by the New Asia Middle School, "New Asia College Cultural Talks" comprises a total of three to four talks each year. NA Alumni Reunions 2019 (Upcoming)
|
Reunion gatherings/activities for classes 1979, 1989, 1999 and 2009 will be held on campus in 2019. The reunion are occasions for alumni to recapture happy moments of their university life, share recent experiences with each other, and provide the College with advice on its future development.

The 69th Founders' Day of New Asia College
|
The College held a series of activities from August to October in celebration of the 69th Founders' Day of New Asia College, with the theme of "timeless bonding" to celebrate College members' everlasting attachment to the College over its long history. Students, alumni and staff members of the New Asia College came together to share a wonderful time.

The 69th College Anniversary Scholarship Presentation Ceremony & Luncheon
|
The 69th College Anniversary Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held at Sir Run Run Hall on 28 September 2018. This year, our guest of honour was Dr. Kwan Pak-hoo Bankee, JP, John Harvard Fellow of Harvard University, Member of the Board of Trustees of New Asia College of CUHK, Honorary Fellow of the Open University of Hong Kong, and Chairman and CEO of Celestial Asia Securities Holdings Limited. With generous donations from our trustees, alumni and people from the community at large, over 160 scholarships were presented to more than 500 students, who had demonstrated excellent performance in various aspects of moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic development.

Professor Wu Dui chaired the New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2018/19 (First Lecture)
|
Permanently endowed by the Dato' Wong Kwing-keung Fund, the First Lecture of "New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2018/19" was held in Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, on 12 October. Professor Wu Dui of the Institute of Mass Spectrometer and Atmospheric Environment of Jinan University was invited to give a talk on "Recent Hot Topics of PM2.5 and the Long-Term Variations of Hazy Weather in China". Professor Wu shared his analysis on the current trend of hazy weather in China and presented his viewpoints and observations through comparing the conditions of different countries. This lecture was hosted by Professor Yao Xiaoqiang of the CUHK School of Biomedical Sciences.

Inauguration Dinner of New Asia Young Scholars Scheme 2018/19
|
The New Asia Young Scholars Scheme aims at promoting whole-person development among our students, igniting their passion for Chinese culture, and equipping them with sensitivity to social issues and leadership skills. Mr. Lam Chi-chiu Roland and our College Trustee Ms. Wong Oi-yee Michell have generously supported the programme since 2014.

New Asia College Cultural Talks 2018/19 (First Talk)
|
The First Talk of the "New Asia College Cultural Talks", jointly organised by New Asia College and the NACAA and co-organised by New Asia Middle School, was held at the school hall of New Asia Middle School on 20 October 2018. Dr. Chan Man-hung, a famous publisher in Hong Kong, was our speaker. The talk was titled "Macro History of China from a Macro Geographical Perspective – Starting from Mongolia Plateau", and was moderated by Mr. Wong Ho-chiu, Trustee of New Asia College. The lecture was very well received by the public.

The New Asia Lectures on Confucianism 2018
|
The New Asia Lectures on Confucianism were launched in 2013 under the sponsorship of the Moonchu Foundation. Each year, a distinguished scholar in Confucianism studies is invited to the College to deliver a series of three public lectures, with the aim of arousing interest among academics and the general public in more in-depth exploration of Confucianism through discussion on various issues. The New Asia Lectures on Confucianism 2018 were successfully held in October 2018, with Professor Yang Guorong, current Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Philosophy Department at East China Normal University, as the keynote speaker.

Mentorship Programme Inauguration Ceremony 2018/19
|
The Mentorship Programme jointly organised by the New Asia College and the NACAA has come to its 18th year. With the great support by the NACAA and the effort of numerous alumni enthusiastic in engaging students' participation, more than 230 alumni and students enrolled in the programme this year. Their years of graduation ranged from 1974 to 2013, which showed that alumni in different stages of life all shared the spirit of passing the torch to the next generation. The College sincerely thanks our trustees and alumni for their enthusiasm and support.
