(A) The 34th Ch’ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture
“The Ch’ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture” is endowed by the Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund. This year’s lectures will be held in mid-March, with Prof. Nicolas Standaert, Professor of Sinology of University of Leuven in Belgium as the guest speaker. Details of the lectures are as follows:

Chu Chun-to (Computer Science/5) of the College together with two CUHK students formed the team “Cloud Players” and won the championship at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Hong Kong (Huawei ICT Competition). The team will represent Hong Kong in the Huawei ICT Competition Asia Pacific 2022-2023.

The College Staff Association organized this annual event to celebrate the Lunar Solstice and Christmas on 22 December 2022 at Yun Chi Hsien. 【Staff Engagement】Prof. Yu Jun Named 2022 Best Female Scientist
|
Three scholars from CUHK Medicine were named “2022 Best Female Scientists” in the “Top 1,000 Female Scientists in the World” by Research.com, a leading academic platform for researchers. Among all, NA-affiliated Prof. Yu Jun, Professor of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, was ranked top three nationally and 162 globally.

【Staff Engagement】Prof. Ren Hongliang Awarded RGC Research Impact Fund
|
Four CUHK research projects were awarded the 2022/23 RGC Research Impact Fund, among which the project titled “Robotic Endobronchial Multi-modal Biopsy of Pulmonary Nodules”, led by NA-affiliated Prof. Ren Hongliang, Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, received HK$8.95 million to facilitate researchers to undertake impactful and translational research projects.

|
Two CUHK scholars were selected as Tencent’s New Cornerstone Investigators, among which is NA-affiliated Prof. He Xuhua, Professor of the Department of Mathematics. He will receive up to RMB25 million to conduct basic research for five years.

At the beginning of the year of Rabbit, New Asia College and New Asia College Alumni Association (NACAA) co-organized the Chinese New Year Party 2023 on 10 February 2023 at the Grand Ballroom of Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong in Mongkok, attracting over 170 friends, alumni and students.

Wordview (Wenziguan) (Solo Display of Cheung Chu-yin Cyrus)
Period: 20 February to 3 March 2023
In the prologue of Shuowen Jiezi, Xushen explained that the Chinese word “wen” refer to pictograms, while the Chinese word “zi” refers to the words developed later for more complicated usage. The word “guan” has lots of meanings, namely, observation, value, and Daoist temple. With the combination of these different meanings, not only does it bring the topics of his work, but also conclude his research in these four years.

【Upcoming Events and Exhibitions】“Harmony of Architecture and the Nature in CUHK” Photo and Painting Contests
|
CUHK campus is built on a hillside, and the architecture blends perfectly with the natural landscape to form a beautiful scenery. The Committee on Environmental Protection organizes the “Harmony of Architecture and the Nature in CUHK” Photo and Painting Contests with an aim to encourage students and staff to discover the beauty of architecture in harmony with nature on the campus and turn it into visual artworks that share wonderful images. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates. All College students and staff are welcome!
