Prof. Wai-Yee Chan, Director of SBS, has recently been appointed as the Founding Director of "The CUHK-BGI Innovation Institute of Trans-omics" ("The Innovation Institute").
Apart from that, Prof. Stephen K.W. Tsui of our School has been appointed as the Associate Director (Education) of The Innovation Institute. Prof. Tsui is currently a member of the TRP "Cancer and Inflammation" of our School; he is also the Head of the Division of Genomics and Bioinformatics of The Innovation Institute which will launch its part-time postgraduate programmes in Genomics and Bioinformatics in the academic year 2011-2012.
The Innovation Institute, jointly established by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI)–Shenzhen, China, aims to promote continuous development of genomic sciences and nurture multi-disciplinary experts and talents. Under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Wai-Yee Chan and with close coordination with the Office of Academic Links (China), our School will play an active and significant role in setting up the various aspects of The Innovation Institute, in the hope of ensuring its smooth operation and collaboration with the BGI-Shenzhen in the near future.
