Over 1,500 students applied for outgoing student exchange programmes 2015-16
This year, a total of 1,570 students applied to the Office of Academic Links for outgoing exchange programmes during the summer of 2015 and term time of 2015-16. A total of 1,520 students were shortlisted and 770 students attended selection interviews. Some 630 exchange offers were made in the first placement round and more students will be nominated through its second placement round.With the phasing out of the double cohort, it is anticipated that around 970 students would participate in outgoing exchange programmes each year along with the offers provided by the Colleges and Departments from 2015-16.
Welcoming new incoming exchange students
CUHK welcomed more than 370 international students at the beginning of 2015 for their new journey in Hong Kong. The Office of Academic Links organised an orientation between 2 and 5 January 2015 to introduce the living and learning environment of CUHK for these new students.
Prof. FOK Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, welcomed the new incoming exchange students at the opening ceremony on 3 January 2015. Students were encouraged to explore the city and get immersed into the local culture by making friends with CUHK students. They were also reminded of enjoying the studies at CUHK which would provide them with a different learning experience. More than 10 CUHK representatives joined Prof. Fok to welcome the new students at the Welcoming Dinner at S.H. Ho College Dinner Hall on 5 January 2015. The new students had their first Chinese banquet and enjoyed the evening with some CUHK student ambassadors. An exchange student, Ms. Angela He Chen of Roanoke College, USA shared her exchange experience at CUHK, particularly in CUHK's 'Dem Beat'.
CUHK students join UNSW business students in cultural communication master class
In January 2015, four students from the International Business and Chinese Enterprise programme participated in a cultural communication master class alongside a group of students from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). A lecture titled 'Working and Management Across Cultures' was delivered by Dr. Lu (Nick) Wang, Senior Lecturer, Australian School of Business, UNSW, allowing the students to learn more about the conceptual frameworks of cultural differences in workplace.
