Be active, be healthy – Hon Wai-shing

Our alumnus Mr. Hon Wai-shing, also known as Master Hon, is a firm believer in leading an active and healthy life.  He not only talks the talk, he walks the walk. Working at the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Hong Kong SAR Government, Master Hon strives to promote healthy living in his leisure time outside of work by being a coach for various sports.  He is also an advocate for lifelong learning and an active volunteer for many organisations, including the CUSCS Alumni Volunteer Team.

Master Hon cares for our community and strives to crusade for social welfare through volunteering with various organisations.  He came across an opportunity years ago to dragon boat through a volunteering activity and immediately fell in love with the sport.  Unfortunately, there was a short while when he had to give up on the sport due to work.  However, aspiring to live a healthy life and with his deep love for the sport, Master Hon soon resumed his dragon boat practice and even took a further step to become a certified instructor.

Apart from being a certified instructor with the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association, Master Hon is also a certified fitness trainer for the EMSD Staff Club and Leisure and Cultural Services Department with the Government of Hong Kong SAR.  In order to train his students more effectively, he enrolled in various sports-related courses with CUSCS, such as "Sport Nutrition" and "Sports Massage and Flexibility Training".  Master Hon noted that having a thorough knowledge in nutrition is especially crucial to being a sports and fitness instructor.  It enables him to tailor his training schemes to suit the needs and performance of each student as well as his own training as an amateur athlete.  Seeing great improvement in his students is the best gift for being a coach.

When speaking about his family, Master Hon couldn't hide his care and love for his wife.  "She really wanted to enroll in the 'Nutrition and Beauty' course with CUSCS to learn about natural health products and healthy diets, but she was too occupied with work so I took the course for her and shared what I learned with her after class," he explained.  Being such a sweet husband, Master Hon also encouraged his wife, who has never been an active exerciser at all, to join the "CUSCS Advance Running Training Workshop" with him to build a healthy living family together.  Our hearts were deeply touched by such a loving husband!
