To celebrate the 72nd anniversary of New Asia, the College organized a series of celebratory activities earlier. An Opening Ceremony was held on 31 August during the orientation camp for freshmen. College Head Prof. Chan Sun-On and Dean of Students Prof. Cheung Kam-siu gave their speeches at the online ceremony. Unlike the previous years, the Opening Ceremony this year was held during the orientation camp aiming to let freshmen know about the College and the anniversary events. As the Thousand-people Banquet was suspended due to COVID-19, the teacher-honouring activity was therefore moved to the first Biweekly Assembly held on 15 September.
Activities organized by the Student Organizing Committee mainly took place in early October, including the “Escape Room” game held from 4 to 5 October. The Fun Fair was held in the evening of 7 October. Although it rained all night, the passion of the students and performers were not cooled off. In addition to student bands and dance groups, popular singers and bands were also invited as special guest performers. The Student Organizing Committee even invited off-campus shops to come and promote local snacks and handicrafts to students.
The Happy Run originally scheduled for 9 October was postponed to 23 October due to bad weather. 200 students, staff and alumni participated in it. In addition, the College held the “Predecessors and Successors – Exhibition on Literary Works of New Asia Scholars” from 12 October to 1 November at the University Bookstore, displaying collections of the College, including works by the founding College Head Mr. Ch’ien Mu published from 1950s to 1960s in Hong Kong.
During the above exhibition, a forum on the “New Asia Spirit” was held on 22 October. Invited speakers, including the College trustee Mr. Wong Ho-chiu, Prof. Chow Po-chung from the Department of Government and Public Administration and Prof. Tam Wai-ping from the Department of Fine Arts, shared their views on the spirit of New Asia. The forum was moderated by Professor Fan Sin-piu from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature.
