Two of Hong Kong's greatest strengths are the Rule of Law and independent judiciary——the cornerstone of its success as a leading international commercial and financial centre. Dr. Anthony Neoh, a legal veteran, shared his view on the Rule of Law in Hong Kong at the High Table Dinner on 20 January. He said, 'The rule of law helps make Hong Kong one of the world's safest cities, with overall crime rates among the lowest. With a sound anti-corruption system in both the public and private sectors, corruption is well under control in Hong Kong. International surveys consistently rate Hong Kong as one of the "least corrupt" places in Asia. In 2014, Transparency International's 'Corruption Perceptions Index' ranked Hong Kong the 17th least corrupt place among 175 countries/territories around the world and the third least corrupt in Asia.' Dr. Neoh has contributed immensely to the construction and regulation of the capital markets in Hong Kong and Mainland China. He has served on many business organizations since the 1990s, including the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee and Debt Securities Group of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Before the dinner, some legal students met with him to learn from his profound experience in the legal sector.

Prof. Dennis Lo, Fellow of S.H. Ho College, shared with students his scientific research dream on 17 February. Out of passion in genetics research, Prof. Lo furthered his studies after obtaining his bachelor degree in Medicine. He, however, saw little progress in his research from 1989 to 1997. One day in 1997, he suddenly had a thought of extracting a fraction in plasma, like what he did when cooking instant noodles. Therefore, he tested 27 mothers' blood plasma and discovered male fetal DNA. After more than a decade of research, he invented a non-invasive prenatal diagnosis for Down syndrome in 2011. The technology is now widely used in numerous countries in Asia, Europe and America. It is estimated that this new technology will be adopted by public hospitals in Hong Kong in two years. Having heeded from Prof. Lo about the delicate relationship between 'innovation' and 'daily life', students were astonished.

Prof. Ng Yuet-lau, President of the Ling Ngai Art Association, presented at the High Table Dinner on 16 March with her son Prof. Philip Chiu, Assistant Dean, Faculty of Medicine. As the Honorary Fellow of the College, Prof. Ng previously led a group of S.H. Ho students to Shaoxing to sketch the landscape images. She further instructed students of S.H. Ho College and Christian Zheng Sheng College painting skills, who later displayed their artworks in the exhibition of the College from 2 to 22 March. Prof. Ng elaborated her 50-year aesthetic pursuit in Chinese painting. She was a nurse at the very beginning, but she embarked on her painting journey under the tutelage of Prof. Zhao Shao-an. From simply imitations right at the beginning to building personal style; from incorporating innovative attempts like the use of vibrant colours and new arrangements, she now entered the phase of reaching a tranquil mindful state by art. She encouraged students to study hard and tried out different art forms at their young age, which helped them refine their temperament. Prof. Philip Chiu, who was fond of flowers-and-birds painting, started to learn Lingnan art under the influence of his mother. Prof. Chiu found similarities between Chinese painting and surgery: both require attentiveness, good planning and sound hand-eye coordination. Painting is a life lecture in temperament refinement for enhancement in his emotion and character, helping him to better understand the needs of his patients. He persists on painting despite his busy schedule. At the end of the dinner, Master Sun conferred Honorary Fellowship to Prof. Ng Yuet-lau in recognition of her outstanding achievement in Chinese painting and her contribution to cultivate the art atmosphere at the College.

Mr. Daniel Lee is the first Hong Kong athlete who joined the Olympic triathlon. He had clinched many awards as a leading triathlete. After retirement in 2011, he began to teach in the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education at CUHK. Mr. Lee came to the High Table Dinner of S.H. Ho College on 20 April to give a speech 'From the Track to the Classroom: The Winning Formula'. His life is not without hiccups. Triathlon made its official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Lee did aspire to join the triathlon, but ended up falling short of the admission requirements. Having encountered this failure in life, he chose not to give up but dedicated his effort in preparing for the next Olympics. He was eventually admitted to the 2004 Athens Olympics and became the first Hong Kong triathlon. In 2006, he represented Hong Kong to take part in the Doha Asian Games and won the first runner-up. 'Having setbacks is natural. Smooth sailing in life is a blessing,' said Mr. Lee. His sharing pinpointed how courage and perseverance demonstrated in his ups-and-downs help to shape his colourful life.

There was a noteworthy ceremony in the high table dinner in April which ignited thundering applause in the dining hall. After the high table members proceeded to the head table and all the diners sang the College anthem, Master Sun smiled and waved his magic wand, some birds fluttered and some words appeared on the wall gradually. Master Sun immediately announced, 'The grand championship of the Master's Cup 2015-16 comes to a successful conclusion on Ho Tim Hall.' In addition, Master also unveiled the results of the '10th Anniversary Logo Design Competition'. The Best Design belonged to an exchange student Lukas Emanuel Klier, and an international student Dimitar Metodiev Andonov won the Most Popular Award. Awardees came onto the stage to accept the awards presented, and were embraced by thundering applauses from the floor.
