Linguistics Seminar
A Linguistics Seminar organized by the T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre (CLRC) of the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was held at CUHK on 22 February 2024. Prof. Hilary Chappell of CUHK and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, Paris was invited to give a talk on “Applicative and Causative Syncretism in Sinitic Languages: A Crosslinguistic Perspective”.
The CUHK-UChicago Forum on Comparative Linguistics
The CUHK-UChicago Forum on Comparative Linguistics was held on 5 March 2024, at CUHK. This forum was organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at CUHK, co-organized by CLRC and the Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago (UChicago), and sponsored by the United College at CUHK. A total of twelve researchers from seven universities, including professors and alumni from both institutions, participated in the presentations.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Prof. Sze-Wing Tang, Chair of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and CLRC Director, and Prof. Alan C. L. Yu, Chair of the Department of Linguistics at UChicago, delivered opening remarks for the event. The forum consisted of nine talks covering various fields such as morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and language contact, with a focus on bringing new perspectives and insights to the field of Chinese linguistics through comparisons with other languages.
