The first talk was held on 17 October 2015. It was our honor to have Mr. Jonathan Cheung as our speaker. Mr. Cheung is a columnist of Hong Kong Economic Journal. He is also an experienced banker who worked in banks in the U.S. and France for 28 years. His experiences in management have been published in over 40 books. The topic of this talk was "The historical opportunity under the new big nations' relationship." New Asia College Trustee, Mr. Wong Ho Chiu, moderated it.
Mr. Cheung talked about the history between China and the U.S. since the signing of Treaty of Wanghia in 1844. He then compared the GDP, and different data of economy and military of the two countries throughout these years. He analyzed the diplomatic strategies of both countries, according to their different cultures. He also mentioned Hong Kong, and discussed how e history affected the recent situation of Hong Kong.
