【Alumni Connections】Alumni Reunion Activities

Owing to COVID-19, it was not possible for the College to organize alumni reunions. The College managed to organize a number of alumni reunions after two and a half years. The 32nd year Reunion Dinner of Class 1990, the 43rd and 42nd year Reunion Luncheon of Class 1979 and 1980, and the 22nd year  Reunion Dinner of Class 2000 were held on 24 September, 8 October and 15 October respectively. Over 130 teachers, alumni and their families returned to the College to attend the reunions which alumni cherished a lot.

When they entered Yun Chi Hsien, all shared about their updates in life. Prof. Cheung Kam-siu (Chinese Language and Literature) and Mr. Mo Kwan-leung Kenny (Electronic Engineering) were not only the participants but also took the roles of the College’s Dean of Students and the Vice-chairman of the College Alumni Association (NACAA), to welcome our alumni. The reunion started with singing the College Anthem. All alumni felt nostalgic about their joyful years of study when seeing their old photos, and shared their stories in the old days. The participants took group photos at the New Asia Concourse after the dinner, and also looked for their names inscribed on the plaques on the Concourse. At the end, the participants left reluctantly.

Singing of the College Anthem marked the commencement of the reunion dinner. Even after graduation of 30 years, the lyrics were still fresh in the alumni’s memory. Prof. Cheung Kam-siu, Dean of Students, as well as Ms. Wong Chui-hung Anny, Chairperson of the NACAA, gave welcoming remarks at the dinner. The College also invited former teachers, Prof. Lee Siu-nam and Prof. Chan Yuk-keung, as recommended by the participating alumni. One alumnus mentioned that in order to invite more fellows to join the reunion, she particularly looked for College alumni around her and surprisingly discovered that her family doctor is also one! She then introduced her doctor to meet other doctors in the same year.

43rd and 42nd Year Reunion Luncheon of Class 1979 and 1980

Likely, the luncheon started with the singing of the College Anthem, followed by welcome speeches by Prof. Lee Ho-man Jimmy, Associate College Head, and Ms. Wong Chui-hung Anny, Chairperson of the NACAA. The participating alumni recalled the memories and shared them with each other, as well as extended their gratitude and best wishes to the College and their teachers. A climax of the event was the singing of Nanyin “Forty Years of Love in New Asia” by Ms. Yuen Siu-hing (History). This song was written by her in 2019 to commemorate her 40th anniversary of graduation, and was published in the January 2020 issue of the New Asia Life Monthly Magazine. The lyrics express the memories, thoughts, respect and aspirations of the alumna to her alma mater. All alumni joined singing the final part together, “…regains the memories at the campus, and carries the epic of New Asia. The spirit is always tied to the heart, we share this spirit, in this golden evening, we have no doubt in all circumstances...” which certainly left behind beautiful memories.

The College would like to thank the class coordinators for supporting the reunion events in various aspects and hopes that the alumni will continue to support College activities and contribute to the development of the College.
