The 16th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education

Co-organised by the New Asia College of CUHK and the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute since 2002, the Seminar on Chinese Moral Education has been promoting Chinese traditional virtues and moral education to the younger generations. Every summer, a group of primary and secondary school principals, teachers and education professionals from various regions of the Mainland attend a series of seminars, discussion forums, visits and exchanges with local school principals and teachers during a 8-day themed programme in Hong Kong. The Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group, with over 30 participants each, are generously sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation and Ms. Maisy Ho Chinese Culture Activity Fund respectively.

The 16th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education, themed "Forgiveness ()", was successfully held from 3 to 10 July 2018, and was attended by over 60 participants from primary and secondary schools or education research units of various Mainland regions including Beijing, Heilongjiang, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and Guangdong.

During the programme, six talks were delivered by the following speakers: Professor Wang Ying and Professor Zhang Jinghua of the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute, Professor Fan Ruiping of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of the City University of Hong Kong, Professor Jia Jinhua of the Department of Chinese Culture of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Father Tsui Kam-yiu of the Hong Kong Catholic Institute for Religion and Society, and Professor Chan Wing-hoi from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (also Adjunct Researcher of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University and Researcher of the Eastern Humanities Foundation of Taiwan).

In addition to lectures, visits to local schools and organisations, including the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, New Asia Middle School, Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Sau Nan Primary School, Independent Commission Against Corruption Headquarters and Red Cross Headquarters, were also arranged for the participants, who gained a deeper understanding of the moral education implementation in Hong Kong and shared experiences with local counterparts. Teachers from local schools were invited to attend sharing sessions on 7 July to talk about their school's moral education experiences, which the Mainland participants found deeply inspiring.
