Kyrgyz Cultural Night

A group of College students from Kyrgyzstan organised the Kyrgyz Cultural Night on 28 February 2018 to introduce their country and culture to College mates.

The student organisers, Adinai ABDYRASULOVA, Bekbolot DJANALIEV, Begimai DOSIEVA, Kairat ESHBOLOTOV, Karlygach KAINAZAROVA and Seiit KULUBAEV, dressed in Kyrgyz traditional clothing, first promoted the Cultural Night at the communal dinner preceding it. Almost 80 College students, the College Master, the Dean of Students, College teachers and staff joined the event and enjoyed a series of performances by the Kyrgyz students.

To introduce their home country, Kairat ESHBOLOTOV gave a delightful presentation with some wonderful pictures and videos about Kyrgyzstan. After the presentation, the Kyrgyz students demonstrated Kyrgyz national dance and music played on traditional instruments, to good rounds of applause.

Different elements of Kyrgyz culture were showcased interactively in different areas of the Activity Rooms. For example, participants could learn to write in Cyrillic calligraphy, weave braids and try on Kyrgyz traditional costumes. They were delighted to take selfies with the posters and to taste a variety of traditional Kyrgyz food, as well as Chinese cakes prepared by the College.

Please revisit the treasured moments at the College photo album.

Reflections by Ms WONG Ting Kwan Peach (Year 2, English)

What a joyous and pleasurable night!

Everything about Kyrgyzstan is simply great! Stunning high mountains, peaceful pastures and tranquil scenery are only half the allure of Kyrgyzstan. The exotic culture is another part of their wonders. Last night, the Kyrgyz students of the College presented their rich and colourful culture with passion and love.

The highlight of the night was the Kyrgyz dance! The Kyrgyz girls could really dance gracefully and delicately. Surprisingly, the gentlemen also pulled off an unexpected show. The performance was pretty eye-opening and enjoyable. You all stole the limelight, applause and cheers. I could see how gleeful you guys were! And, my lovely friend Adinai looked so distinguished and elegant there! Thanks to Adinai and Karly for braiding my hair. I fell in love with those adorable plaits. You were so nice, lovable and spirited!

Besides, the Kyrgyz cuisine was fascinating. Their savoury dishes were really appetising. Everyone ate with relish! Personally, I adore the dish called 'Plov'! That delicious bowl of rice had the savours of flavourful seasoning, tasty ingredients and Kyrgyz intelligence. It was too hard to resist another bite of those aromatic food.

The night was filled with wonder and delight. We grinned from ear to ear, as we enjoyed the night as much as you all did.
