By Ms CHOI Azura Yuk Chin (Class of 2016, Biomedical Engineering)

Hiya! I am Azura, one of the founding students of the College. I was admitted to The Chinese University of Hong Kong and joined the College in 2012. I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Engineering and I am currently a part-time master's student at The City University of Hong Kong majoring in Engineering Management.

After graduation, I entered the Electrical and Mechanical Service Department (EMSD) as a Biomedical Engineering Graduate in September 2016. I have been receiving practical training under professional guidance so as to meet the training requirements of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers' Training Scheme 'A' in the biomedical discipline and will be promoted as an assistant engineer this coming September.

As a founding student, I witnessed the growth and development of the College with the number of students rising from 75 to 300. Once I was very proud to tell my friends that I knew everyone in my College. During the four years spent in the College, I actively participated in various activities and took up different positions of responsibility. I was the Chair of the 3rd Student Honour Code Committee and Vice President of the 1st Representative Council of the College Student Union. These experiences equipped me for being a proactive and detail-minded leader.

In summer 2015, I also obtained an internship opportunity in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) through the College. I was assigned to the Opto-electronics Department, where I got the chance to learn more on how research and development of medical electronics are carried out.  It was a precious experience for an Engineering student to undergo internship related to their field, allowing me to have a clearer picture of my future career development.

By taking part in the community services organised by the College, I understood the meaning of social responsibilities of an engineer as well. A quote from Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie, 'The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to your community around you', is my motto as a biomedical engineer, upholding the safety and well‐being of society. While engineers apply their know-how in their work for the betterment of society, we can raise the standing of the  engineering profession through proactive community engagement.
