New Asia Young Scholar Scheme 2014/2015 (A Final Review)

New Asia Young Scholar Scheme aims at providing students with whole-person education, increasing their knowledge of Chinese history and culture, and empowering them to become individuals responsible towards society, displaying qualities that contemporary intellectuals and leaders should possess.

The 12 New Asia Young Scholar Students in New Asia Young Scholar Scheme 2014/2015 participated in a series of training programmes. In addition to college representatives in orientation activities, participants in the Banquet in Celebration of the 65th Anniversary of New Asia College, attendants in various lectures and alumni events, they had chances to MC in college activities, engage in, and learn from luncheons in Literature and Language, History, Philosophy and the Arts.

Various luncheons were held from January to April with Professor Richard M. W. Ho, Dr Joseph S. P. Ting, Professor K. C. Ng and Dr P. C. Chui invited as voluntary mentors. While having luncheons with New Asia Young Scholar Students in a relaxing environment, they conversed on diverse topics with the students. New Asia College again expresses heartfelt gratitude for the precious time of the four mentors spent sharing their enthusiasm for Chinese culture with students and enhancing their understanding of Literature and Language, History, Philosophy and the Arts.

"The New Asia College and New Asia Middle School Mentorship Programme", with New Asia Young Scholars Scheme 2014/15 New Asia Young Scholar Students as mentors, organised the first event outside campus this year on 21t March. Mentors brought their mentees to the Lecture Theatre in Hong Kong Central Library to attend the second lecture of the "New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China" and benefited enormously from it. Mr. Yang Jinlin hosted the lecture concerning "Self-reliance and Self-governance: The Return of Hong Kong to The PRC and "No Change for 50 Years"".

On 17 April, New Asia Young Scholar Students had the opportunity to have a dinner meeting with three New Asia alumni, Mr. Yip Wing Sang (72/ Zoology), member of the Council of The Alumni Association of New Asia College, CUHK, Mr. Kwok Kai Hing (82/Economics), Principal of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Morrison Hill) and Mr. Chan Ka Lok (96/Accountancy). Through communicating with alumni from different decades, students are given a glimpse of New Asia Spirit and the history of New Asia College.
