In the summer service project in 2018, the Service Team is planning to strike a bigger impact on the community by reaching out to more socially disadvantaged school youths. As recommended by The D. H. Chen Foundation, HHCKLA Buddhist Ching Kok Secondary School is regarded as a new service target and a participating school for this year's summer programme, in addition to Po Leung Kuk CW Chu College (PLKCWC).
Recruitment of Participants
The two recruitment days for the summer service project were held successfully in April 2018. Members of 'Servistar', the Sixth College Service Team, visited HHCKLA Buddhist Ching Kok Secondary School and promoted the summer service project to all Secondary 2 and 3 students at the morning class assembly session on 17 April 2018. They presented a slideshow with selected pictures of last year's summer project; played a video of the project highlights and distributed enrollment forms to the secondary students. After the promotion session, they also met with the School Principal and class teachers to obtain more valuable information about the students in order to facilitate the planning of the summer service project. Positive feedback has been received from the school and Servistar believed that the upcoming programme will be a success with the great support from the school.
Since 2013, PLKCWC has become the main service target of the College summer service projects. On 23 April 2018, Servistar visited their campus and met with the teachers and supporting staff there. Followed by the brief introduction of each member, Servistar presented the upcoming programme to PLKCWC. The school was pleased to hear that a new school has joined this year's summer service project. They looked forward to having a greater progression in collaboration with the new school.
