6. Meet Our Library Staff

Stella Seto, User Services Librarian

What are you responsible for?

User Services provide enquiry, circulation, registration, inter-library loan, document delivery, stack management and facilities management services to library users. As User Services Librarian, I assist in the formulation and implementation of these services, as well as explore and apply emerging technologies to improve service quality, review workflow for efficiency and work collaboratively across the Library and with other university departments to ensure cohesive and responsive services.

I also coordinate library services to students with special educational needs and help to ensure library accessibility to all users. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions for library services.

Can you share with us your career journey and education background?

After obtaining my first degree in communication, I joined Reed Elsevier and assisted in legal publishing before furthering my studies in library and information science in London, where I also had my internship at the Library of the University College London. Coming back to Hong Kong, I joined the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and assisted local and international clients by providing them with timely business information and economic data. I then started my academic library career by joining the City University of Hong Kong, where I had wide exposure in access services, reference and information services, subject liaison and public relation before joining the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a User Services Librarian.

As I embark on my 20th year in the library profession, I am grateful for the unwavering support from library users, colleagues from across the Library and the University, and all other people who helped and worked with me along the way. I will continue to support students and faculties to meet their learning, teaching and research needs, serve all library users of the CUHK community, and nurture young librarians to carry on with this evolving role in a profession that goes back many years in history.

See you around in the Library!
