The 12th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education

The Seminar on Chinese Moral Education aims to promote Chinese traditional virtues and moral education to the younger generations and has been co-organized by New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute since 2002. Each summer, a group of primary and secondary school principals, teachers and education professionals from different parts of China attend a series of seminars, discussion forums and visits related to moral education during the 8-day programme at the College. Starting this year, the Seminar has been expanded to include the Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group, with around fifty participants in each group. The two groups are generously sponsored by Tin Ka Ping Foundation and trustee, Dr. Chan Chi Sun.

The 12th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education was held from 2 to 9 July, 2014, with "Virtue ()" as the seminar theme. Over ninety participants came from schools and units of various parts of China including Beijing, Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Shanxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Hubei, Inner Mongolia and Guangdong.

 

Six lectures related to Chinese Moral Education were held during the seminar, delivered by the following speakers: Prof. Wang Dianqin from the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute, Fr. Tsui Kam Yiu from the Hong Kong Catholic Institute for Religion and Society, Prof. Lau Kwok Keung from New Asia College, Prof. Fu Yongji from the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute, Mr. Chan Kin Hung and Prof. Harold Mok from the Department of Fine Arts at CUHK. Apart from lectures, participants also visited local schools and organizations, including Tin Ka Ping Foundation, New Asia Middle School,C.C.C Heep Woh Primary School, ICAC Headquarters  and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Museum where they learnt about moral education in Hong Kong. Teachers from local schools were invited to forums to introduce programs related to moral education and the promotion of Chinese Culture, which was an excellent platform for the sharing of experiences with their local counterparts. Participants have found these experiences deeply inspiring.
