Field Trip Poster Presentation
On March 6 and 8, 23 MA students who participated in the Taiwan field trip in December shared their research findings with their fellows and the general public. Asked to present their work in a poster format, students were encouraged to summarize their ideas and present them clearly using charts and graphics. Their works were exhibited on the ground floor of Yasumoto International Academic Park. During the presentation session, they stood beside their posters and elaborated their ideas in detail to teachers and interested passers-by. The presentations clearly demonstrated the fruits of their creative labor.

Students of the Course "Urban China" Visiting Yau Ma Tei
On March 10, CCS and international exchange students enrolled in the BA course "CCSS 3700 Urban China" made a trip to Yau Ma Tei with Prof. Minhua Ling. Students observed the urban space and the socioeconomic configurations in this old Kowloon neighbourhood, walking around Tin Hau Temple, studying the history of the old police station, talking to vendors in the jade and night markets, and trying local food from sidewalk booths on Temple Street. Before the field trip, students attended a guest talk by an Iranian asylum seeker about the current non-refoulement claim policies and the situation of asylum seekers in Hong Kong, and discussed the issue of urban citizenship in the era of globalization.

CCS Barbecue Party
The CCS Alumni Association and the Student Association for China Studies co-organized the annual CCS barbecue party on March 25 at Whitehead BBQ, Ma On Shan. Along the seaside, around 30 participants, including teaching staff, alumni, as well as research postgraduate, Master and undergraduate students, came together and had a wonderful time sharing food, thoughts and laughter in the midst of the second semester.

MA Field Trip to JCCAC and PMQ
MA students taking the course "Chinese Art in the World after 1900: Aesthetics and History" went on a day visit to Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Sham Shui Po and PMQ in Central on March 30. Guided by Dr. Elaine Kwok, students were introduced to the local arts scene from the grass-roots to the high-end level, and learnt about art museums in urban cultural planning. They had the chance to explore and experience the arts market and the surrounding neighbourhood, to deepen their understanding of the creation and consumption of contemporary arts.

2018 Capstone Research Student Conference
The one-day Capstone Research Student Conference took place on April 23. All final-year undergraduate students were invited to present their research findings. Made up out of five panels, the conference covered a diverse range of academic interests in China Studies, including social and political issues, new trends in economic development, as well as China's new role in the world. In the Q&A session after each panel, students took the opportunity to interact with the audience. Prof. Jan Kiely, the Centre's Associate Director, along with Prof. Ling Minhua and Prof. Li Chen, discussed with students and shared their insights into different topics.

MA End-Of-Year Dinner
The End-of-Year Dinner for the Master (MA) Programme of Chinese Studies was held on April 26. Over forty teachers and students enjoyed a very local Hong Kong meal at Chan Kun Kee, a famous "Dai Pai Dong" in Shatin. It was some students' first time tasting the signature dishes of the restaurant, such as wasabi chicken, deep-fried oyster cake, roasted goose, etc. They also tried the popular mango dessert near the restaurant. After the dinner, students and teachers put an end to a fulfilling academic year by taking plenty of group "selfies".

Research Postgraduate Student Conference 2017-18
On May 3, the Research Postgraduate Student Conference was held, with five PhD and MPhil students presenting on their work progress and findings. Their projects covered various interesting topics, such as medicine collectors in southwest China in the 1930-40s, the Marriage and Divorce Regulations implemented during 1945-1953, etc. Their very different research approaches—ranging from history to social science methodologies—created fruitful discussions across a wide spectrum. Students not only got an opportunity to share their research with peers and the Faculty, but also received useful input from them.
