Dr. Douglas Murray of the Yale-China community passed away

Dr. Douglas Murray, a vital member of the Yale-China community, passed away in New York City on 19 April 2020. The College would like to express its profound condolences at this loss. Dr. Murray, after graduating from Yale University in 1958, served as a Yale-China Bachelor at New Asia College for two years, and later on completed his doctoral studies at Stanford University.

Over the past six decades, Dr. Murray contributed his talents and leadership to many non-profit organisations, including the Asia Foundation, the China Institute, and the Lingnan Foundation. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, he was at the forefront of efforts to create programmes for educational and cultural exchange between the United States and China.

Dr. Murray enjoyed life-long friendships with his fellow Yale-China teachers, students, and colleagues. Two years ago, he conceived and led the establishment of the Charley Blatchford Fund to honour the contribution of Mr. Charley Blatchford, his friend and fellow Yale-China Bachelor from his New Asia days. Dr. Murray served on the Board of Trustees of Yale-China Association from 1995 to2001 and again from 2002 to2008.
