The Third Talk of the "New Asia College Cultural Talks", jointly organised by New Asia College and the NACAA and co-organised by New Asia Middle School, was held at the school hall of New Asia Middle School on 25 May 2019, with Professor Fan Sin-piu being our speaker. The talk was titled "Re-reading Canonised Prose Writings of the May Fourth Era", and was moderated by Ms. Wong Wai-ting. The lecture was very well received by the public, and was attended by many enthusiasts for literature.
During the Cultural Talk, Professor Fan shared with the audience three classic proses from the May Fourth era. These works included chapters four and seven of Bing Xin's "wangshi" (past events), Zhu Ziqing's "beiying" (the sight of his back) and Lu Xun's "nahan zixu" (author's preface to "Battle Cry"). Professor Fan made good use of the session to present in simple words the three canonised pieces, focusing on analysing the main ideas and writing approaches of each piece while sharing vivid anecdotes about the authors. Participants were deeply absorbed in the lecture, which received enthusiastic responses and inspired fruitful discussions between the speaker and the audiences at the Q&A session afterwards.
