The College was honored to have Professor Yu Kwang Chung, Professor Emeritus of Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, as the guest speaker of the 65th Anniversary Lecture and the 28th Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture in late February and early March 2015. Professor Yu delivered three public lectures on poetry and gave poetry recitals during his visit. A banquet in honor of Professor and Mrs. Yu was held on 26 February at Yun Chi Hsien, offering our warmest welcome to the speaker.
The first talk "Gong Zi-zhen and Shelley" was held on 27 February in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, and was moderated by Professor Wong Nai-ching, Head of the College. The second talk "A Comparative Study of Chinese and Western Pastoral Poetry" was held on 1 March at the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Central Library, with Professor Jin Sheng Hwa Serena, Emeritus Professor of Translation of CUHK, as the moderator. The third talk "Poetry Recital, with a Brief Introduction to the Art of Poetry Reading" was held on 6 March at Lecture Theatre 5 of Lee Shau Kee Building, CUHK. Professor Yu delivered a short speech on poetry reading, and gave a demonstration with a few poets in Hong Kong.
The three talks received an enthusiastic response and inspired fruitful discussion between the speaker and the audience.
