Biosketch of Mr. TING James Wai Ming
Before joining the School, Mr. Ting had been working in the Department of Anatomy, the University of Hong Kong for nearly 40 years. He was the Laboratory Superintendent in the past 26 years.
Mr. Ting is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. He is also a Member of the British Institute of Embalmers, and the China Anatomical Society. He was qualified as an embalmer with The British Institute of Embalmers in 1981, and was the first qualified Embalmer in Hong Kong. Apart from that, Mr. Ting was also elected a Member of the Australian Institute of Embalming and a Member of the European Association of Embalmers. He participated actively in various medical related associations including the Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine & Surgery, St. John Ambulance Association (as the Lecturer in First Aid), the Society for Pre-hospital Advanced Resuscitation and the Kiss of Life, etc.
Mr. Ting has been appointed by the 101 Institute, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the PRC as a Visiting Professor for the National Higher Certificate Course for Embalmers. In 1982, he was awarded the CICHE grant to receive training in Museum Techniques at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. In 1988, Mr. Ting was awarded another grant to get training on plastination at the Manchester University, UK. In addition, he was also awarded a grant from the Hong Kong University to obtain training on silicon injection of the brain at the Medical University of Vienna.
