The 13th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education

The Seminar on Chinese Moral Education aims to promote Chinese traditional virtues and moral education to the younger generations and has been co-organized by New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute since 2002. Each summer, a group of primary and secondary school principals, teachers and education professionals from different parts of Mainland China attend a series of seminars, discussion forums and visits related to moral education during the eight-day program at the College. The Seminar included the Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group, with around thirty participants in each group. The two groups are generously sponsored by Tin Ka Ping Foundation and Sin Wai Kin Foundation Limited.

The 13th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education was held from 2 to 9 July 2015, with "Good ()" as the seminar theme. About sixty participants came from schools and units of various parts of Mainland China including Beijing, Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Shanxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Hubei, Inner Mongolia and Guangdong.

Six lectures related to Chinese Moral Education were held during the seminar, delivered by the following speakers: Prof. Wang Dianqin from the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute, Mr. Li Yuhui from The Second High School Attached To Beijing Normal University, the Hon. Ip Kin Yuen from the Legislative Council (Functional Constituency – Education), Professor Liu Xiaogan from the Department of Philosophy at CUHK, Professor Leung Yuen Sang from the Faculty of Arts at CUHK and Friar Tsui Kam Yiu from the Hong Kong Catholic Institute for Religion and Society. Apart from lectures, participants also visited local schools and organizations, including Tin Ka Ping Foundation, New Asia Middle School, ICAC Headquarters and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Museum where they learnt about moral education in Hong Kong. Teachers from local schools came to forums on 4 July to introduce programs related to moral education and the promotion of Chinese Culture in their schools. These made an excellent platform for the sharing of experiences with their local counterparts. Participants commented that they found these experiences deeply inspiring.
