Mr PHAM Binh Dam shared insights drawn from his personal and professional journey. He emphasised the significance of international experiences in cultivating a flexible and multi-dimensional mindset, referencing the quote, 'looking at the world through your own lens'. Mr PHAM's perspectives also inspired the Vietnamese students in CUHK who were specially invited to the Dinner. He encouraged them to leverage exchange opportunities to broaden their horizons and to develop a comprehensive and insightful way of thinking, preparing them for their future careers and lives.
The evening also included the presentation of the Cultus et Beneficentia Award 2023, the highest honour bestowed upon students of the College. The recipient was Mr YE Haiyu Benny (Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science/Year 5).

The High Table Dinner provided a platform for the CWC students to hear from our Warden, Prof Jeremy TEOH. In his address, Prof TEOH shared the personal story and experiences that have shaped his academic and professional journey. Reflecting his dedication to his highly disciplined specialty, his life goals exemplify a selfless commitment to service: ‘to be kind and generous, and always try to help people around me, so as to nurture the younger generation to become better than me.’
The dinner offered valuable insights and motivation, empowering the audience to embrace Prof TEOH's vision of making a positive difference in the world.
College Photo Exhibition — 'Our Story: Steeped in Time, Told Through Images'
As this year marks the 60th anniversary of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the College has taken this opportunity to organise a College Photo Exhibition titled Our Story: Steeped in Time, Told Through Images (「敬文光影,感切良朋」) to reminisce about the College's development and the remarkable contributions of Dr CW Chu and Dr David Chu through photos and exhibits.
This exhibition is also advised by Dr XU Liang Leon from the School of Architecture. This allows the exhibition to adopt sustainable principles in its material selection and venue setup, integrating harmoniously with Chong Kin Wo Hall and showcasing the minimalist architectural aesthetic.
The Launch Ceremony was held on 15 March 2024. Distinguished guests, University members, and CWC students attended and explored the captivating visual narratives of CW Chu College.
Mentorship and Scholarships
In 2023–24, a total of 10 seasoned professionals agreed to mentor our students (10 mentees joined the Scheme), guiding them to discover their potential.
Launch Ceremony for the Mentorship Scheme and Presentation of Scholarships and Certificates 2023–24
The Launch Ceremony for the Mentorship Scheme and Presentation of Scholarships and Certificates 2022–24 was held on 6 April 2024 at Chong Kin Wo Hall. Over a hundred participants were present, including scholarship donors, mentors and mentees, guests and friends of the College, College affiliates, parents, as well as award and certificate recipients.
College Master Prof Suk-Ying WONG addressed the audience. Prof WONG expressed her hearty thanks to late Dr David CHU, scholarship donors, as well as friends and colleagues who have supported the College over the years.
Ms HU Xinrui (Journalism and Communication/Year 3) delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the scholarship recipients and mentees. She expressed her gratitude for the generous support and opportunities the mentors and scholarship sponsors provided.
This year, around 90 scholarships were distributed to recognise students' academic and non-academic achievements. Certificates were presented to members of student organisations in appreciation of their contributions to various College initiatives.
A tea reception was held at Lanson Terrace after the ceremony.
First Encounter with Cantonese Opera: Introductory Talk Series and Workshop Series
From November 2023 to March 2024 the Department of Music's Centre for Chinese Music Studies and CW Chu College co-organised an introductory talk ‘Appreciating Theatre Together’ followed by seven workshops, to promote Cantonese opera culture and artistic features.
