Jointly organised by the Chung Chi College and the New Asia College and co-organised by the Department of History since 2007, the Yu Ying-shih Lecture in History invites an internationally renowned scholar in history every year to conduct lectures and academic exchanges. Professor He was invited to share his views on the Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty.
The First Lecture entitled "Reshaping the doctrine and shelving the classic — Dan Zhu's studies of the Spring and Autumn Annals (Chunqiu) as an example" was held at the Hong Kong Central Library on the afternoon of 10 November 2019, and was moderated by Professor Lai Ming-chiu, Chairman of the Department of History of CUHK. Many students, staff members and members of the public attended the lecture, which was significantly beneficial in promoting the study of history in CUHK and in Hong Kong as a whole.
The Second Lecture entitled "The philosophy of 'understanding the essence to achieve practical use' (Ming Ti Da Yong) and its rise and fall — Hu-Learning (Huxue) as an example" with Emeritus Professor and Research Professor of the Department of History of CUHK Leung Yuen-sang invited as the moderator, originally scheduled to be held at Cho Yiu Hall in CUHK on 11 November 2019, was unfortunately cancelled out of consideration for the safety of the speaker and audience under unsatisfactory public transportation conditions.
