The 26th Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture

The 'Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture' aimed to enhance academic and cultural exchanges. Ever since Mr. Ch'ien Mu chaired the 1st Lecture in 1978, it has become a well-respected event within the academia, and speakers who have been invited are all distinguished scholars in different terrains related to the study of Chinese Culture. Starting from 2013, the lecture series will be endowed by the Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund.

The College is privileged to invite Prof. Philip Sun Shu-yue, the founder of the Department of Translation of CUHK and a multi-disciplinary scholar, as the guest speaker of the 26th Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture in April 2013. Professor Sun has delivered three public talks respectively on the English alphabets, Chinese literature and the study of the English language during his visit.

A banquet in honor of Prof. Sun was held at 7pm on 12 April at Yun Chi Hsien, offering our warmest welcome to the speaker. Apart from the public talks, Prof. Sun has also participated in a lunch gathering with our undergraduate students on 22 April at Yun Chi Hsien. Students were immensely benefited from his sharing of experience in studying abroad, learning languages and translation.
