Jointly organised by the Chung Chi College and the New Asia College, and co-organised by the Department of History since 2007, the Yu Ying-shih Lecture in History invites an internationally renowned scholar in history every year to conduct lectures. This year’s lectures were sponsored by the Austin-Eminence Charitable Foundation and co-organised with the Hong Kong Museum of History. All lectures were conducted both on-site and online.
The first lecture titled “Sports and the Idea of China” was held on 6 May 2023 at the Hong Kong Museum of History, and was moderated by Professor Puk Wing-kin, Associate Professor, CUHK Department of History. In this talk, Professor Xu interpreted Chinese civilisation, ethnic and national identity from the perspective of sports.
The second lecture titled “Sports as American 'New Frontier'” was held on 8 May 2023 at Cho Yiu Conference Hall, CUHK, and was moderated by Professor Cheung Sui-wai, Chairman of the CUHK Department of History. In this talk, Professor Xu shared the impacts and significance of sports in the societal and historical development of the United States.
