Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Upgrade to Maintain Data Centre Running 24x7
There are 2 Data Centres maintained by ITSC 24 x 7 to ensure smooth network and online services within CUHK and across the globe.
This July, we have upgraded 2 Uninterruptible Power Supply units (UPS) serving in the Centre Data Centre 1 (CDC1). They are essential to provide continuous power supply from a separate source when utility power is unavailable, or the voltage decreases to an unacceptable level.
The new UPS provides greater reliability and would avoid single point of failure with multiple smaller UPS modules integrating batteries together to provide redundant power protection. In the event of the failure of one module of the UPS, the power supply from the UPS would not be interrupted.
In average, a UPS can serve the data centre for approximately 15 years. You will hear about our more advanced UPS after a decade!
