Self Manifestations of S.H. Ho College Graduands
Graduands are often busy with dissertations and attending job interviews for future long-term development. Thirteen S.H. Ho College graduands, however, chose to review their college life over the past three to four years to explore their dreams and what they have been striving for. Their inner explorations and authentic stories were crystallized into graduation photos and installation artwork displayed in 'I am Graduate' Arts and Photo Exhibition held from 10 April to 12 May 2014 on 3/F in Chan Chun Ha Hall. To them, growth means walking step-by-step. It's also the process of learning to live in the moment.

When Rhododendrons Blossomed
The rhododendron blossom on the University campus reminds us of Graduation Photo Day, and the memorable moments shared by S.H. Ho graduands were on 28 March 2014. Dressed in gowns representing their respective faculties, the College's second cohort of graduands carried bouquets, balloons and graduation toys on the Photo Day to celebrate the significant moment.  Roast suckling pig, colour crackers, champagne and balloon arches prepared by departments filled the College with pleasant atmosphere.

'Sublime Tranquility' Art Exhibition
An art exhibition entitled 'Sublime Tranquility' of Miss Yung Ngai-man, an aspiring Chinese painter, was held from 9 April to 2 May 2014 at S.H. Ho College. More than 40 artwork including paper and porcelain paintings were displayed. Miss Yung is the first Hong Honger who pursued a master degree specialized in flower-and-bird paintings at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Graduated in 2013, her graduation artwork have been collected by the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. With special focus on flowers and birds, her Chinese paintings demonstrate an integration of meticulous and freehand style. Her agile brushstroke and refined taste of colours revitalize the static objects in her paintings. The flowers and birds she illustrated reflect their enjoyment of pleasant serenity and sense of spirituality.

The Art of Debating
SHHO Cantonese Debate Team clinched the second runner-up in the CUHK Hexagon Debate Competition.
In debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting an argument based on logical consistency, factual accuracy and some degree of emotional appeal to the audience. This is the art of debating. At S.H. Ho College, two experienced debaters who wanted to promote debating among the college students incepted the Cantonese Debate Team in 2012. The two-year-old team participated in the CUHK Hexagon Debate Competition this year, which is an annual intercollegiate Cantonese debate competition. Our debate team, clinching the second runner-up in the competition, is the first one among the new colleges to compete against debate teams from old colleges and the Department of Public and Government Administration in the competition.

The Reinvigorating Encounter
Coffee originated in the Arab world. Coffeehouses and coffee culture flourished in the Middle East, and gained wide popularity after getting rooted in the Europe of the 17th century.  As the only reinvigorating drink at that time, together with its special aroma, coffee was soon embraced by scientists, businessmen, lawyers and thinkers. With coffeehouses featured different themes gaining popularity in Hong Kong, speciality coffee has also been mushrooming. In light of this, the Warden Team and Resident Unions co-organised a coffee workshop on 25 March 2014. Mr. Tsuyoshi Mok, the mentor of the champion of the World Siphonist Competition this year, was invited to be the instructor to enrich the participants with both coffee knowledge and brewing techniques.

Dr. Rebecca Lee—An Artist Travelling Around the World
'Some people doubted what I could achieve in my expeditions, saying that I shouldn't have left the design industry from which I was making money,' says Dr. Rebecca Lee, the world's first woman explorer who has made 18 expeditions to the poles and four ventures to Mount Everest. 'But this is my life, and I chose to pursue my dream,' she smiled. At the High Table Dinner on 16 April 2014, Dr. Lee elaborated on her life expedition as a polar explorer during which she captured life in harsh conditions with her camera, and educated the Hong Kong and mainland communities about the environmental protection through art.

Small Move, Big Change
'We can leave positive impact on Earth affected by global warming. The change-making factor is eating less meat,' said Mr. David Yeung, co-founder of Green Monday which is a local social enterprise that encourages Hong Kong people on going meatless on Mondays for healthy and environmentally friendly living. 'Hong Kong has the second highest carbon footprint per capita of any country in the world. By giving up meat for just one day per week, a person can reduce his or her carbon emissions by 28.5%.' Mr. Yeung shared with students on change-making habits at the cultural dinner entitled 'Positive Living' on 10 April 2014.
