MAJOR PAST EVENTS School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) Research Day 2015 cum Cardio-Metabolic Biology Symposium 2015 |

Officiated by Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, the "SBS Research Day 2015" in conjunction with the "Cardio-Metabolic Biology Symposium 2015" was successfully held on 4 and 5 June 2015. The event was well attended by more than 240 participants, including our School members, associate members from clinical departments, CUHK colleagues as well as guests from the University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Science Park.

| SBS Retreat 2015 | |
The SBS Retreat 2015 (the Retreat) was successfully held on 9 May 2015 to discuss the way forward for the School in the next five years and beyond. About 60 academic and teaching staff, administrative staff and representatives from the SBS Postgraduate Student Association participated in the Retreat.

| Laboratory Safety Course | |
A laboratory safety course was organized by the University Laboratory Safety Office on 30 June 2015 for participation of our School's summer students and research interns who would need to carry out research in our laboratories. This prerequisite course, conducted in both English and Putonghua, aimed to brief the participating students on the detailed laboratory safety procedures and regulations before they could start conducting experiments in the laboratories.

| SBS Summer Research Internship Programme 2015 | |
Following the previous success, the School continued to organize the SBS Summer Research Internship Programme for medical students between June and August 2015.

| Summer Workshop on Enhancement of Dissection Techniques | |
With the coordination of Prof. Hector S.O. Chan, Dissecting Laboratory Coordinator and the support from the Dissecting Laboratory, a Summer Workshop on Enhancement of Dissection Techniques was organized for medical students from mid-June to late July 2015.

| Biomedical Research Academy for Secondary School Students (BioMeRA) 2015 | |
The Biomedical Research Academy for Secondary School Students "BioMeRA" was first launched by the School in summer 2015, which aimed to provide secondary school students interested in biomedical sciences a holistic experience of being a biomedical research student in the campus of CUHK. Nine Form 4 to 6 students participated in the six-week programme from mid-July to late August 2015.

With the arrangement of the Vice-Chancellor's Office, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, our School Director, Prof. Feng Bo and Prof. Wan Chao, members of the School's Stem Cell and Regeneration Program, together with Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President and Prof. Fanny M.C. Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President, met with Prof. Alexander von Gabain, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Innovation and Commercial Outreach, Karolinska Institutet (KI), Sweden, on 18 June 2015. During the meeting, they discussed potential collaborations with the CUHK especially in the areas of regenerative medicine.

Following the establishment of the CUHK-SDU Joint Laboratory on Reproductive Genetics (the Joint Laboratory), Mr. Liu Yuan-Tao, Chief Financial Officer and Ms. Hu Quan, Finance Officer, Finance Department, Hospital for Reproductive Medicine, Shandong University visited the School of Biomedical Sciences on 13 August 2015.

| Summer Research Training Programme for Chongqing Medical University Students | |
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in November 2014, a group of 9 undergraduate students from the College of Laboratory Medicine, Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) were arranged to participate in the Summer Research Training Programme (the Programme) organized by the School of Biomedical Sciences from 28 June to 15 August 2015.
