| 2. New Staff |
Dr Dai Ben joined the department as Assistant Professor on 02 August 2021. He received the PhD degree in Data Science at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in 2019. Prior to CityU, he obtained the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Hangzhou Dianzi University in 2015. His research interests include Statistical Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Recommender Systems and Ranking.

Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2020
Faculty Exemplary Teaching Award 2020 |
Prof Wong Hoi Ying was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2020 and the Faculty Exemplary Teaching Award 2020 in recognition of his distinguished teaching performance.

Ms. Chen Kexin, Mr. Han Jinhui, Mr. Leung Cheuk Wai Dominic and Ms. Li Chunxue were awarded the Best Teaching Assistant Award 2020-21 in recognition of their outstanding teaching duties.

PhD student Ali Choo received 2021 Outstanding Student Award in recognization of his remarkable achievements in Arts, Sports, and Contribution with a continual positive impact on the community. Congratulations to Ali!

Overseas Research Award for PhD Students
Research Postgraduate Student Grant for Conferences |
To provide postgraduate students with the opportunities to conduct research at renowned overseas institutions as part of their research studies and support them to attend and present papers at international conferences, the department has established the Overseas Research Award for PhD in Statistics Students and the Research Postgraduate Student Grant for Conferences.

| 4. New Bachelor of Science programme - Computational Data Science (CDAS) |
CDAS is jointly developed by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Statistics and will be offered in academic year 2022-23.

| A Talk Given by Dr. John Wright to the Secondary School Students |
Dr. John Wright gave a talk to the secondary school students on how maths and statistics can be used to optimize matching, The Secretary Problem and k-means clustering at The ELCHK Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School on 25 November 2021.

| The Virtual Symposium on Statistics and Risk Management 2020 |
The Virtual Symposium on Statistics and Risk Management 2020 was held during 11-12 December 2020 via ZOOM. It aimed to bring together scholars and researchers to present state-of-the-art research topics in statistics and risk management in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas.
