Prof. Dennis Yuk-ming LO, Associate Dean (Research) and Chairman of the Department of Chemical Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received the 2nd National Award for Excellence in Innovation for his seminal contribution to the widely-used noninvasive prenatal test based on the original discovery of fetal DNA in maternal blood which has benefited millions of pregnant women globally. The prize presentation ceremony was held in Beijing on 30 May 2020. Apart from Prof. Lo, Prof. Zhang Mingzhi of Joint Shantou International Eye Center (JSIEC) of Shantou University and CUHK also received the award certificate.
National Award for Excellence in Innovation was was jointly established by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; China Association of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology; State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council in 2017. Awardees and awarded teams are selected for their original and innovative researches in science and technology that have outstanding achievements.
