CUHK Organizes Cultural Exchange Programme on the Belt and Road Initiative
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized a six-day summer camp titled "Exploring the New Silk Road: Leadership and Cultural Programme on the National Belt and Road Initiative cum Ningbo-Hong Kong Exchange Programme (Hong Kong Station)" on 15 – 20 July, inviting 28 students and five staff members from Tsinghua University, Lanzhou University (LZU) and Ningbo University (NBU) to Hong Kong for cultural exchange.
Led by nine student ambassadors of CUHK, staff and students from the three mainland universities toured around Hong Kong. Apart from learning about the city's social, historical and cultural development as well as Cantonese in lectures and workshops, they had the chance to visit various local museums and public organizations to gain an understanding of the regional development and the interaction between Hong Kong and the mainland under the National Belt and Road Initiative. During their stay in Hong Kong, they also met with such CUHK members as Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Professor Kenneth Young, Former Master of C.W. Chu College; Professor Michelle Miao, Faculty of Law; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) for exchange.
After the Hong Kong programme, CUHK sent a total of 18 students to Beijing and Lanzhou for the programme of "Exploring the New Silk Road: Leadership and Cultural Programme on the National Belt and Road Initiative" from 22 July to 1 August. Visits were paid to Imperial Palace and the Great Wall in Beijing, as well as Sangke Grassland, Ruoergai Flower Lake and Langmu Temple in Gansu Province. Students were exposed to local traditional cultures and ethnic minorities. They also had the chance to hear case trials at Haidian People's Court in Beijing. The Ningbo-Hong Kong Exchange Programme (Ningbo Station) was held from 23 to 29 May earlier.
CUHK has been collaborating closely with Tsinghua and LZU since partnership establishment. A wide range of student activities in cooperation with the two universities have been held at university, college and faculty levels, among which summer courses, training programmes on national policies, thematic cultural camps and innovation and entrepreneurship activities are most popular. CUHK jointed the "Belt and Road University Alliance" initiated by LZU in 2016 and subsequently planned the tripartite student activity with the theme of the Belt and Road Initiative with LZU and Tsinghua last year.
