A delegation led by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Wuhan University from 25 to 27 October 2013 to strengthen academic linkage. Prof. Sung also attended the APACPH Conference in Wuhan University.
Members of the CUHK delegation included Prof. Arthur Mak of the Department of Engineering, Prof. Vincent Mok of the Department of Surgery Prof. Yung Wing-Ho of School of Biomedical Sciences, and Prof. Wang Defeng of the Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology. The delegation visited Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO), one of the only five National Laboratories in Mainland China to promote research, innovation and technology. Prof. Sung and delegates also met with Prof. Li Peigen, President of HUST; Prof. Luo Qingming, Executive Deputy Director and representatives of WNLO as well as representatives of WNLO to obtain more information about their recent developments and used the opportunity to explore possibility of research collaboration.
During the visit, Prof. Sung delivered a keynote speech entitled Emerging Cancers in Asia: Are we too much Westernized at the APACPH Conference and shared his thoughts and exchanged ideas with scholars and experts in public health. This was the 2nd visit paid by CUHK to Wuhan and it further provided the opportunity for academic members from the universities to update each other on the latest developments and discussed possible directions on respective academic strengths, which consolidated existing collaborative efforts and enhanced ties for future cooperation.
