A 10-member delegation from Tsinghua University visited United College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) under the College's Budding Scholars Exchange Programme from February 10 – 19. The students from Tsinghua University conducted a presentation on 18 February on the topic of "The Impact of the Beijing Olympics on China's Societal and Social Development". Apart from presenting their research results, the delegation also visited different government departments and organisations such as the 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Limited, Planning Department, Legislative Council, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Hong Kong Museum of History.
The Budding Scholars Exchange Programme was launched in 1989. Each year, United College invites a university outside Hong Kong to be partner of this bilateral exchange programme. Both sides select no more than 8 students as "budding scholars" who will be required to conduct research on a special topic. The findings of the research will be presented by the students when visiting the partner institution. Some of the exchange partners in the previous years include Jilin University, Nanjing University, the National University of Singapore, Shanghai Jiaotung University, Sichuan University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, and the University of Missouri, USA. This is the third time CUHK has partnered with Tsinghua University in organising the programme. |
