----------------------------------------------CUHK Receives Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards Three scientific research projects conducted by researchers of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have received Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) 2019 from the Ministry of Education (MoE), including a first-class award in natural sciences, a second-class award in natural sciences, and a first-class award in science and technology progress. The project “New role of Hippo signalling pathway in atherosclerosis caused by turbulent blood flow” by Prof. Huang Yu, Dr. Li Wang and Dr. Jiang Yun Luo School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine was awarded the First-class Awards in Natural Sciences The project received the Second-class Awards in Natural Sciences was “Controlled Functionalisation of Carboranes” led by Professor Xie Zuowei, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science. The project of “The mechanism of epilepsy and refractory epilepsy in relation to clinical research” by Dr Howan Leung, Clinical Associate Professor (honorary) of the Division of Neurology at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine received the First-class award in Science and Technology Progress. The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) is set up by the MoE to recognise outstanding research projects at all tertiary institutions in mainland China. Since 2009, Hong Kong's tertiary institutions have been included in the scheme. The award is presented to individuals or units who have made remarkable contributions in the areas of scientific discovery, technological innovation, science and technology advancement and implementation of patented technologies. The Natural Science Award honours researchers who have made discoveries in natural science and applied science. The Science and Technology Progress Award honours research achievements in applied technologies of natural science that have made creative contributions, or individuals or units who have made important contributions to the national security. Details of the 3 awarded projects can be found here in the University's press release.----------------------------------------------CUHK Team Awarded the Science and Technology Prize in Survey and MappingDr. Ma Peifeng and his team from the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), have received the First Class Award of Science and Technology in Survey and Mapping 2020 from the Chinese Society for Geodesy Photogrammetry and Cartography. This is the first time in CUHK to receive Science and Technology Award in Survey and Mapping. The awarded project entitled "The demonstration and application of Radar Satellite Remote Sensing Technology for infrastructures”, aimed to use satellite remote sensing technology to monitor the safety of major infrastructures. The technology is similar to the CT scanning for medical diagnosis, which can also be used to project clearer images for diagnosising the structural health of the infrastructure.Dr. Ma expressed his thanks to the professional training and the academic environment provided by CUHK, as well as the support from Professor Kwan Mei Po, Director of ISEIS. He mentioned that ISEIS’s ability to receive world-class radar satellite data is also crucial to this award. The Science and Technology Award in Survey and Mapping is a national award to honour projects, institutions and individuals that have made major achievements in scientific research, technological innovation or application for geomatics discipline. |
