Faculty Continues to Shine in RGC Grants

The Faculty consistently performs well in Research Grants Council (RGC) grant applications. In the latest RGC General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2018/19 exercise, the Faculty received funding for 50 projects with a total amount of $29.9M. The Faculty proudly achieves a 49% success rate which is the best in the engineering discipline among all UGC-funded institutions. Over the past three years, the Faculty has maintained an average success rate of 49.9%, well above the RGC's average in the engineering discipline for all universities. To top it off, SEEM Department obtained a success rate of 78% in this competitive exercise. In particular, all six SEEM professors from the Information System discipline were successfully funded, a success rate of 100%.

In addition to GRF-ECS, the Faculty received a Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) grant amounting to $47.3M in July 2018. The funded project, titled "Image-guided Automatic Robotic Surgery", was led by Prof. Yunhui LIU (MAE Department) and comprises 17 researchers from CUHK, CityU and HKU. It is the only funded project under "Theme 4: Advancing Emerging Research and Innovations Important to Hong Kong" of TRS 2018-19, and is also the second time the Faculty wins this grant.
