Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK Attends the Mainland-Hong Kong Science and Technology Co-operation Committee Annual Meeting
Jointly organized by the State Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Innovation and Technology Bureau of HKSAR, the 11th meeting of the Mainland-Hong Kong Science and Technology Co-operation Committee was convened in Guiyang on August 15 – 17. Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the meeting on behalf of the University. More than 60 participants including senior members from local tertiary institutions and representatives of reseach and technology organizations from Hong Kong and mainland China joined the event. The meeting was co-chaired by Prof. Yin Hejun, Vice-Minister of MOST and Mr Nicholas Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology. Both of them delivered opening speech and gave closing remarks. During the meeting, mainland and Hong Kong representatives reported on the progress of collaborative developments in tenchnology and science among the regions. Discussions were held on upcoming plans with specific suggestions and directions. Prof. Cheung introduced the recent developments of CUHK's collaboration on innovation and technology with mainland China. Delegates also visited Guiyang's various enterprises and research facilities to learn about the latest technological research and industrial development of the city. Since the late 1970s, CUHK has been initiating and deverloping a variety of collaborative projects in education and research with mainland China, maintaining a close relationship with its mainland partners. Currently the University has established five Partner State Key Laboratories as approved by MOST, three Ministry of Education Key Laboratories, and over 60 joint research units with mainland institutions and research organizations. The annual meeting enabled participants aross the regions to share experience of their work in relevant fields, obtain the latest information about the industry of innovation and technology, further enhancing academic and partnership relationships to unite efforts of the Government, industry, academia and the research sector. |
