President of South China University of Technology Visits CUHK and Renews Collaboration Agreement
Professor Gao Song, President of the South China University of Technology (SCUT) led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 18 July. He met with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK and other CUHK members including Professor Martin Wong, Faculty Dean of Engineering; Professor Bian Liming, Associate Professor of Department of Biomedical Engineering and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).
At the meeting, President Tuan and President Gao renewed the collaboration agreement between CUHK and SCUT. Representatives from both sides discussed further plans of academic exchanges and talent-nurturing based on the current collaborative framework. It is expected that student interflow and research collaboration will be fostered in the near future. The delegates were then led to visit the Laser Metrology and Biomedicine Laboratory of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, to gain an in-depth understanding of CUHK's research facilities and to explore possible collaboration in science and engineering.
SCUT and CUHK have been developing a range of academic activities since 1990, with joint projects mainly focusing on Engineering. Alongside the establishment and progressing development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, this visit has enabled both universities to enhance connection to promote sustainable development of the partnership in student interflow, academic exchange and scientific research collaboration.

Vice President of Beijing Normal University Visits CUHK
Professor Wang Shoujun, Vice President of Beijing Normal University (BNU) led a 9-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 16 July. The delegates met with Professor Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor to learn more about the University's substantial experience in setting up first-class laboratory facilities and management of State Key Laboratories. Topics on resources allocation and possible challenges in Hong Kong's higher education were also discussed. To acquire a comprehensive grasp of laboratory establishment and management, the delegation was then led to visit the State Key Laboratory of Research on Bioactivities and Clinical Applications of Medicinal Plants.
Since the establishment of partnership in 1997, BNU has become one of the CUHK's major partners. Both universities have carried out a wide range of collaborative projects in scientific research and student interflow activities. The visit enhanced the linkage between CUHK and BNU, especially in the field of research development, facilitating expansion of collaboration in various areas.

Visit of President of Zhengzhou University
Professor Liu Jiongtian, President of Zhengzhou University (ZZU), accompanied by six administrative heads of ZZU, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 July to explore collaboration fileds in student interflow, scientific research and talent-nurturing with CUHK.
The delegates met with CUHK members including Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Thomas Mak, Wei Lun Research Professor and Emeritus Professor of Chemistry. CUHK members briefed the guests on CUHK's recent developments with emphasis on the University's Strategic Areas of Research. President Liu introduced ZZU with its history and latest advancement in Medicine and Science. Both sides discussed the plans in developing student and staff interflow activities as well as possible acacemic exchanges.
This visit has strengthened exchange between CUHK and ZZU, enhancing mutual understanding for partnership growth.

Deputy Director General of Department of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province Visits CUHK
A 11-member delegation led by Mr. Duan Xiong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 11 July. Delegation members comprised government officials and business representatives from Jiangsu's technology enterprises. The delegation was warmly greeted by Dr. Daniel Lee, Associate-Vice-President of CUHK; Professor Raymond Tong, Department Chairman of Biomedical Engineering; and Professor Megan Ho, Assistant Professor of Department of Biomedical Engineering. The visit was accompanied by the representative from the Nanjing Office of the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council, with an aim to explore possibilities of collaboration between government, industry, academia and the research sector between Jiangsu and Hong Kong.
Dr. Daniel Lee gave an overview of the University to the delegation with details in research directions. He also learnt about the latest development of knowledge transfer in Jiangsu Province. The delegation acquired information about research projects and development of biomedical engineering at the meeting, followed by tours to laboratories of biomedical imaging and informatics. This visit not only established linkage between the Jiangsu province and the University, but also strengthened bilateral understanding to expand the field of collaboration development in future.
