The annual Asia-Pacific Association for Internal Education (APAIE) Conference & Exhibition was hosted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)from 11 to 14March 2013 at the Asia World-Expo. With the theme on international higher education in the 21st century and as part of CUHK's 50th anniversary celebration, the Conference attracted almost 1,300 participants from 45 countries and regions, becoming the largest ever international education conference in the region. Senior representatives from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and a number of leading Chinese universities were invited to join the Conference.
Guests from Mainland China comprised Madam Zhang Xiuqin, Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, MOE, who gave keynote address on the development of higher education in China; Dr. Ai Hongge, Deputy Director, Office of HK, Macao & Taiwan Affairs, MOE; Prof. Song Yonghua, Executive Vice-President of Zhejiang University; Prof. Wu Dan, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Prof. Yi Zhihong, Vice President of Renmin University of China; Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. Lu Tianjian, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University; Prof. Lu Fang, Vice President of Fudan University; Prof. Li Fei, Vice President of Wuhan University; Prof. Pu Lijie, Associate Vice-President of Nanjing University; Prof. Xu Dianguo, Assistant President of Harbin Institute of Technology; Mr. Xia Hongwei, Director of International Relations of Peking University; and Mr. Xia Guangzhi, Deputy Director, Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Tsinghua University. Participating universities shared their strategies and experiences in international exchange and joint collaboration projects with overseas institutions at conference sessions, which was beneficial to foster understanding and establish partnership.
One of the pressing events was the Presidents' Roundtable where university leaders were invited for exchange across the globe. Senior members from Mainland universities also took the opportunity to share their insights on the international higher education landscape, strengthening ties for partnership development.
APAIE is a non-profit organization that seeks to activate and reinforce the internationalization of higher education around the world. CUHK is one of the 13 founding members of APAIE.
