26 participants in this programme came from eight top institutions on the mainland, including Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, China Agricultural University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. They were offered the chance of internship training for 8 weeks on research projects in various departments, including Institute of Precision Engineering, Department of Chemistry, Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Department of Physics, The State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK), Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, School of Chinese Medicine, Department of Information Engineering, Department of Mathematics, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Center for Housing Innovations.
Apart from research training, the participants were arranged to have interflow with postgraduate students of CUHK, and to visit some key research facilities in CUHK. The programme also included visits to some major public organisations in Hong Kong, such as Hong Kong Equal Opportunities Commission, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and Legislative Council etc. It was believed that these visits would give the participants a better understanding of Hong Kong and CUHK.
A closing ceremony was held on August 14. Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and related professors attended the event to farewell all the students and presented certificates to the participants. Prof. Cheng said that the summer placement programme created a valuable learning environment for mainland postgraduate students to study in Hong Kong, and also further enhanced collaboration and strengthened partnership with the University's key partners on the mainland.
